Contest Frequently Asked Questions!

From The President:

We apologize for all of the confusion regarding entries. We thought we had covered everything when we first announced our contest, but we pride ourselves in creativity, and fall short with legalities and proper "contest etiquette". Things have been pretty quiet this past few months regarding entry questions therefore we thought we had it all covered and then the many questions started pouring in!

Since the contest entry information has caused so much confusion, we will extend the contest deadline until January 27,2006. This should give those folks a chance to prepare their entries that were not sure if they qualified! The forms have been revised, so good luck and we look forward to your participation.

Robert Beverly CEO Intaglio Composites

VERY IMPORANT NOTE INSERTED 12.20.2005

Is this an international contest?

YES. The contest is open to ANYONE from ANYWHERE with minimum age of 18. There was a mistake made in the entry form and it has been corrected.

Is there an entry fee?

NO. The contest is free.

Can a group submit an entry?

YES. A group may submit an entry but only one person may submit the entry on behalf of the group.

What must be in the entry?

We have outlined the details of content in the entry form. The following is an excerpt from the form;

WHAT YOUR ENTRY MUST CONTAIN:

1. A Short, 50-word Executive Summary description of your design (in English), This description should not contain any information that you or your company considers proprietary.
2. A general, 500-word (minimum) description of your design (in English) that is suitable for publishing if you win. Intaglio Composites has the right to publish this information if you win.

3. Your submission MUST include artistic imagery showing your concept. These renderings may consist of any combination of drawing styles from vector to raster and or a scanned rendering of the final work. Any original or hand rendered drawings must be a minimum size of 8.5” x 11”(no original art will be returned). Electronic reproductions of your artwork MUST be 300 dpi or greater. All computer rendered entries must be in a computer readable format (JPG,BMP,TIFF)

We have received several entries that have just been a photograph. Although the photo may be extremely creative, it alone does not fill all of the requirements for submission. It is important to tell us how you see the image used in our world and why!

The ideal submission?

The ideal submission example is indicated here:

The example above shows the photo engraved concrete used in a very creative way.

How? Using the photo-engraved concrete to showcase the newspaper publisher's address
.

Can you imagine a better way of advertising and celebrating your new location than to place your product and history in the eye of the beholder. The graphical presentation helps to tell the story and if one does not have the graphical capability to do that, then try to explain the purpose of your suggested use in the summary.

Please keep in mind the following: (excerpt from the entry form)

The prize-winning entry will be selected based on creativity (33%); overall concept (33%); fulfilling the criteria required in the guidelines, and clarity of written explanations and presentation (33%)

Is the competition anonymous?

NO. The winners will be announced and the prizes awarded, but as we go forward, each person will be given credit for their submission where appropriate unless you specify otherwise.

My use of the English language is limited. Will this effect my submission chances?

NO. Upon submission, we will review the submission and contact you for your permission to edit as necessary any information that we feel could be improved to explain your concept.

How many images should be sent?

This is totally up to you. If your concept is better explained over multiple files, that is fine, but the images must follow the parameters included in the entry form and quoted below:

Your submission MUST include artistic imagery showing your concept. These renderings may consist of any combination of drawing styles from vector to raster and or a scanned rendering of the final work. Any original or hand rendered drawings must be a minimum size of 8.5” x 11”(no original art will be returned). Electronic reproductions of your artwork MUST be 300 dpi or greater. All computer rendered entries must be in a computer readable format (JPG,BMP,TIFF)

Do you accept non-photographic images; that is, graphic designs, for the competition?

Yes. You can choose any type of graphical presentation, both photgraphic or graphic to tell your story.

What if I send files prepared for email and the file(s) size exceeds email limitations?

We have prepared an ftp service for those files exceeding 10mb. If you try to send your file(s) via email, you will receive a confirmation from our office. If you do not receive a confirmation within 24 hours, then a problem has occurred and we will give you instructions for submittal.

How do we submit the 'Eligibility, Publicity and Liability Release' Form if we wish to send our entry via electronic mail? Can we send the form in WORD format? Do we send the filled out form together with our entries?

The release form can be submitted in word, scanned and sent as an image or printed and mailed in. The signature area can just be filled or typed in and returned.

The form can be sent in with your concept artwork submission. Please send as a separate file.

Should the author's name appear anywhere on the submission, such as in the Executive Summary, Design Description or Images? Will the anonymity of the entries be maintained during the judging process? If so, how does the organizer associate the entries with their authors?

We ask for your contact information upon submission. Once your file and paperwork is submitted, your submission will be assigned a number that will be used when preparing a disk to be sent to our judging panel. The disk will contain your artwork and summary without any personal information. Your anonymity will only apply to this disk. Once the contest is over, you will be given all credits for your work in printed and web announcements.

Has the extension effected the final award date?

YES. We have now moved the date to award the winners to April 1, 2006. This will give our judging panel ample time to review and return the entries. These judges are professionals in their respective field and have gratefully donated their time to this contest therefore we must allow them that courtesy.

Where do I send my submission via email?

Send your submission to: contest@intagliocomposites.com

Will the results only be announced on 1 March 2006? NOW EXTENDED TO APRIL 1, 2006

Have you ever entered a contest and had to do your own research to find out if you won? We plan to contact all individuals participating and let them know who won, where they can go on the website to see the winning entries as well as the use of public notifications during the coming year.

NEW INSERT 12.20.2005

PLEASE READ THE ENTRY FORM CAREFULLY.

There have been several entries submitted that only contain images and although they may be very artistic, they fall short in providing the necessary entry information. There is other items needed for the entry to be complete. The below excerpt is from the entry form:

In other words...tell us what you think makes your entry so special, where you think it should go and why! We also want to know how this fits in with the use of our process. Would the use of your design concept (not just photos) provide a true impact?...Why?...Where?...How?

What else may happen as a result of this contest for those entries that do not win?

We have received quite a bit of feedback on proposed ways to announce and give credit to those entries awarded as well as those that almost made it to the top. We have listed a few ideas that are being considered.

1. We definitely plan to post winners to publications for announcement. A feature article has been offered in a major publications with distribution in 8 languages.
2. There has been a suggestion made by a well known design institution to create "mockups" of the top 15 entries for a touring exhibit through educational institutions and museums.
3. Our company plans to create a book featuring all entries.

4. Installations for award winners will be photographed and featured in company literature.
5. Selected entries will be posted on the company website.

If you have any more concerns or questions, please forward to contest@intagliocomposites.
