Technical
Information
Sizes
There is no limit to actual panel size but there
may be constraints on size due to the specific application of transfer.
Our staff will assist you in developing a program that best fits
the parameters that you are working with. Limitations might include
handling, graphical boundaries or actual design limitations. These
panels can hold a single image or be a part of a larger image utilizing
tiled composite panels as shown in the sample to the right.
Thickness
The thickness of our work can
range from 1.5" up to 12" depending upon the application
of the work it will be incorporated in or on. We have been testing
"textile concrete" for the creation of work that will
give us the opportunity to offer thick nesses of 3/8" to 1/2"
or more. This new development will create an entire genre of materials
used in the creation of floor tile, wall tiling and application
of a concrete surface onto an existing wall without concern of weight.
More on Textile Concrete. Our staff will recommend suggested
thickness based on each application. We are currently testing our
design mix for application of strength and load bearing capability
for structural applications.
Concrete Mix
Design Options
Intaglio Composites uses a high
performance Self Consolidating Concrete (SCC) to create a higher
strength, more dense, lower permeability concrete.
We also use an unlimited range
of pigments and additional pozzolanic materials to produce a high
quality "fair finish" to achieve the greatest contrast
between the form or smooth surface and the etched Intaglio Impressions
in the concrete.
After Care
Options
Intaglio Composites recommends
the use of high performance fully penetrating siloxanes for maximum
weathering and protection, although nothing is required.
When the
Litho-Crete™
composite is used horizontally, a high performance sealer appropriate
to the conditions of use should be used to reduce wearing of the
image. We are currently testing a variety of sealants and will provide
a full and detailed report once testing is complete.
Process Synopsis
You will be asked to provide
your visual collage of work to be reproduced. Once received, we
will assess the work and determine the proper method of interpretation
for the work as it is being applied.
Considerations that must be
observed is the contrast, clarity and quality of the graphical work
submitted. We will provide an assessment of the work and create
a visual comparison study for your final approval.
Once all images are approved,
we begin the process of transferring the design to the final concrete
composition.
Your imagination is the limit
of this expanse!

Tiling Study
The photo
shown below will be part of a historic timeline marker for a "seatwall"
in progress for the "Jeffrey Open Space Spine" in Irvine
California, SWA, Jim Maloney, Architect. Here we have provided
you with one of the reproduced images. We decided to use this
image as a sample to demonstrate "tiling"(where multiple
panels are placed together to form a single image).
|
The image below shows the final photograph reproduced as a 32"
square image comprised of 4-16" tiles. For larger projects
this method reduces manufacturing costs as well as shipping and
installation.
